Flatties That Sent My Heart A Flutter!

I met these perfect shoes last weekend when a fellow co-worker came into work to say hello after she had just returned from a six week European adventure. I was so excited to see her, but as I embraced her in a warm hug and peered down at her feet, I was momentarily paralyzed.

Her shoes had caught my gaze (and my heart) in an instant. Never before had I felt the urgency to buy a fashion piece so intensely. The words burst out of my mouth before I could even think about them.

“Where are your shoes from? Oh-My-God, they are absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!” I screamed!

My friend was just as excited as I was with the perfection that decorated her dainty feet. She went on to explain that she purchased two pairs while overseas and that they were Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes.

That explained everything. I am a huge fan of Melissa shoes and Vivienne Westwood and in my opinion anything that these two geniuses collaborate on is going to be a fashion must have.

The shoes were on my mind all day. As I served customers and styled outfits all I could think of was the quickest way to get my hands on a pair of these shoes. I knew that I would be able to find them next year when I visit Europe but that simply wouldn’t do. I began to picture all of the outfits that these shoes would compliment. Dresses, shorts, jeans, the list was endless.

The moment I got home, I whipped out my laptop and announced to the family that I was on a mission. I began ebaying and googling for the flats that sent my heart a flutter and before long, LIFT OFF!

I found the Melissa website and ordered myself my new favorite fashion item. Braced with their picture splashed across my laptop screen, I headed down stairs to announce that there would soon be a new member of the Ancora family and that there would be a celebration to mark their first public appearance.

Now all there is to do is wait for the postman and stare at their picture that has replaced my boyfriends as my screensaver. Well, that and look for my next pair. I already have two in mind!

Those who know me are well aware of my addiction to anything that sparkles. Jewellery has long been the love of my fashion life. But a new brand of jewellery has stolen my heart and whisked me into a buying frenzy that threatens to send me to fashion rehab like never before.

To Thigh or Not to Thigh? That is the question.

Ugg boots, Knee-high boots, ankle boots, gum boots. You name them, I’ve worn them.

Boots have become quite the winter staple as far as fashion footwear is concerned and I for one have been a keen follower of this trend for many years. However this season’s boot trend has caught me off guard. Do I or don’t I invest in a pair of shoes that are so incredibly high that they could also double as a pair of leggings? This season’s boots are going where no boot has dared to go before – half way up the thigh and dangerously close to the crouch.

I can certainly see their appeal, they do look sleek but am I the only one getting flashbacks of Julia Roberts leaning against Richard Gere’s sports car in Pretty Woman?

To put it bluntly my dilemma is this. Are these thigh-high masterpieces fashionable or are they going to make me look like a working girl and not the legal kind?

Tired of procrastinating I decided to undertake in some investigation. I hit the stores and tried on as many pairs of thigh-high’s as I could get my hands on. Flats, high heels, suede, leather- I tried them all. I came to the conclusion that unfortunately with thigh-high boots it is a typical case of you get what you pay for. Cheap boots (under $100) due to not being made out of leather look tacky. If the boots were cheap, they looked it. If the boots were expensive ($250 onwards) they looked more stylish and classy not to mention the fact that they were well made with leather. However there is one major exception. Do not, I repeat, do not wear shiny thigh-high’s no matter how much they cost. The shiny plastic is tacky and it is then that they drastically fall from stylish to stripper and unless you’re buying them for that purpose it’s best to back away slowly!

If this high priced winter wardrobe staple is certainly going to put a break in your university student budget like it would mine, I strongly suggest you do what I did. Take your knee-high boots from last year and pair with some knee-high socks in the same colour. It looks amazing and their $20 price tag makes them much ‘easier on the old hip pocket’ as my grandfather would say.

The Rolls Royce of Jeans…This Year’s MUST HAVE!

From the moment I saw them it was love.

Not the lust kind, the real L O V E,  love at first sight, ‘I must have you now!’  kind of love.

There they were, folded on their Bettina Liano,Chapel Street Stoe shelf.

The jeans I had been looking for my whole life! Was this life long search finally reaching its fashion end?

Hesitantly, I turned over the price tag…$380…OUCH!

I’ve paid more for jeans, but not in this economic climate…DID SOMEONE SAY RECESSION?

But the cut, the fit, the Balmain like tares and rips in their acid was splendidness was just too much to bare!

I’ll just try them on, see how they look, hopefully they will make my legs look like two fat sausages and they will be a temptation no more!

Who was i kidding? These jeans that caught my eye were always going to look good on!

What to do…I’ll save! I WILL have these ‘to die for’ skinnies if it is the last thing I do!

And prerably before the last thing I do next week…hmm I think Ebay is calling, or maybe a lemonade stand
